Beyond the Game Drive

A safari story becomes thinner when every frame removes the habitat, the vehicle, the weather and the species that guests are taught not to admire.

The context

This developing body of work looks at wildlife as part of a landscape rather than a collection of portraits. It includes predators, plains game, birds, distance, behaviour and the human systems around conservation.

The approach

The project is built through return visits and patient observation. It avoids inventing a single client or location narrative for photographs taken across different field days.

What it demonstrates

Wildlife photography, visual sequencing, editorial writing and an ability to find stories beyond iconic species.

Why this matters commercially

A client can see the method, field access and editorial judgement without Wilderness Eye pretending the work was commissioned by an organisation that did not commission it.

The story

This independent Laikipia and Ol Pejeta series examines what sits beyond a wildlife checklist: fences, roads, water, guides, rangers, tourism spaces, neighbouring livelihoods and the decisions that hold a conservation landscape together.

Visual approach

  • Wide habitat and weather
  • Wildlife with environmental context
  • Working portraits
  • Roads, boundaries and infrastructure
  • Lodge and visitor experience
  • Conservation interpretation and unanswered questions

Why it matters commercially

It demonstrates the ability to build a destination narrative that serves a conservancy, lodge, publication or campaign without reducing the place to isolated animal portraits.
